Fall/Winter Fashion Trends for 2009

Even if the weather in the Philippines is tropical and mostly hot and humid year-round, every Belle de Jour fashionista knows that the trick is to suss out key trends and work them in her wardrobe. So, your Soul Sisters have researched on what trends to watch for in Fall/Winter 2009. Check them out below!
1. Over-the-knee or thigh-high boots. Boots have always been a fashion staple in fall/winter collections, but this year, they’ve gone a little spunkier by adding a few more inches above the knee. Pair ’em with a sexy mini, skinny jeans, or super short-shorts with barely there tights and a cropped blazer to project classy yet sexy at the same time.
2. Chunky knits. The pashmina roars back to the fashion runway, this time, bigger, heavier, and louder than ever. Expect drapes, knits, tunics, and shawls to boast of chunkier looks. They would also come in a myriad of colors, from basic black to red-hot red, from sedate navy to dainty pink or funky orange.
3. Feminized menswear. Menswear for women goes softer with ruffles, pleats, bows, lace, and the like. Expect normally structured pieces such as trousers to be feminized with cinched waists or dainty adornments such as a floral brooch. This trend is something bellas who just want to look good sans the fuss should catch on. No fuss + frills = seriously sexy.
4. Colors of the season: mostly muted, but still bright. Red, purple, pink, yellow, and blue take on a more serious shade, as a reflection of this year’s tough economic climate. Of course, the fall/winter collection wouldn’t be complete without its basic hues: black, white, gray, and brown.
5. Capes and cloaks are making a comeback this season. Cropped or long, plain or printed—they’re here to stay until spring or summer comes! If you think you can’t pull this off in our tropical climate, think again: you can wear a cape or a cloak instead of your usual blazer in your freezing office. For the uninitiated, capes are like tunics—they’re outerwear with no sleeves, just slits for the arms, and billows out over your body. Capelets are a shorter version of capes. Cloaks, meanwhile, are similar to capes—they’re just longer and usually fall from mid-calf to ankle-length.
