Jazz Up Your Usual Style!

Are you deathly bored or sick to death of having the same getup day after day after day? Well, here’s some good news for you, bella: There’s no need for a complete wardrobe overhaul (and max out your credit card), because you can add pizzazz to your usual threads with just a few choice accessories and lots and lots of creativity.

Go ukay-ukay. There are so many ukay-ukay shops around the metro so that means you won’t have to go looking at the most obscure places to look for cheap—yet great—finds. Think vintage: Ukay-ukay stores are almost always going to carry one-of-a-kind pieces, so you’re sure that you won’t have to experience the horror and humiliation of wearing the same outfit as your friend or co-worker.

Another way is to scour your mom’s and lola’s closets to see if they have vintage dresses, shirts, and skirts that you can wear. As one fashionista puts it, “Vintage is the best! I am guaranteed a hundred percent that no one has the same dress or outfit as me. And vintage from my mom’s and lola’s closets are even better, because the clothes come from people I really know and have the same size as I do.”

Tip: Make sure you wash the clothes you just bought to get rid of the musty smell of most ukay-ukay finds and other bacteria that may have clung to them.

Do it yourself (DIY). It’s really easy nowadays to make accessories for yourself—you can source material from malls (though they are quite pricey), school supplies stores such as National Bookstore, and tiangges in Divisoria. Grab a crafty (translated: one who loves tinkering with arts and crafts) friend who can show you the beginner’s ropes in DIY fashion, or log on to the World Wide Web and google away for how-tos. You can make your own jewelry or, if you’re bolder and more brave enough to try, your own dress or skirt! Have fun DIY-ing, bella!

Accessorize it! Accessories make a BIG difference when it comes to your getup. A casual jeans-and-tee ensemble has more oomph when you accessories with a cute bangle, earrings, or necklace. Same goes for the trusty LBD: Killer red pumps or stilettos and an eye-catching neckpiece (such as bib necklaces) make your LBD ensemble anything but boring. See, this is the trick most fashionistas know: With the right accessories, you and your getup will be a standout.

Tip: Don’t pile on the bling all at once—that’s fashion overkill right there. Just go with one statement piece (like a bangle or a necklace) and perhaps a smaller, understated one (like a pair of stud earrings). You want to look fabulous, not trying hard, or worse, baduy. Keep in mind that being fasyon is all about balance.
