You Are What You Eat and Drink
Beauty and skincare experts claim that what you eat and drink can affect your complexion. So, we did some snooping and came up with these marvelous tidbits.
1. It’s not chocolate per se that’s bad and causes pimples, but sugar in general. If you’re not blessed with a clear complexion, your sweet tooth may only worsen your pimple or acne problem. That’s because sugar affects your hormone levels (it produces endorphins or sugar rush), so make sure you don’t go on a sugar or chocolate binge if you’re having a bad skin day—or week.
2. Fruits and veggies are good for your skin because they are rich in anti-oxidants. They flush out toxins in your body and this shows up in your complexion. Anti-oxidants prevent premature skin aging, so if you want healthy, young-looking skin, load up on nature’s goodies.
3. Forget coffee; take green tea instead. Coffee contains caffeine, which acts as a diuretic (meaning it drains water out of your body by making you constantly pee). It can dehydrate you and make your skin lose its natural elasticity, so experts recommend green tea as a healthy substitute. Not only does green tea have soothing effects (remember, stress can wreak havoc on your skin), it is also rich in anti-oxidants that detoxify your body.
4. Too much alcohol can cause wrinkles and puffiness around the eyes. Like coffee, alcohol is a diuretic and can dehydrate you, so keep your alcohol intake to a minimum, say, at most a glass of wine a day.
5. It’s okay to consume oily or fatty food; just moderate or regulate your intake. There is what experts call “good” fats and “bad” fats. You can’t completely write off oily or fatty foods from your diet, since your body needs a little fat or oil to keep skin hydrated and healthy.
6. Processed food means that certain nutrients have been removed, thereby making it less healthy or worse, contain toxins. Stay away from processed food as much as you can, and go for natural, raw food such as fruits, veggie sticks, salads, even sushi!
The bottom line is, healthy eating leads to healthy and younger-looking skin. Now munch your way to beautiful, glowing skin!
