Must-Try Of The Month: Eyelash Extensions

If you’ve been dying to dramatize your peepers—without the hassle of using complicated eye makeup maneuvers—lash extensions are a quick and easy beauty solution to try.

What It Is: Lash extensions is a cosmetic process where synthetic lashes are glued on to your real lashes. Once they’re attached, your lashes look longer and thicker—as if you’re wearing several coats of mascara. The goal is to brighten up and define your eyes without using eyelash curlers or any form of eye makeup. Bonus: The procedure is even safe for those who wear contacts.

How It Works: First, the technicians apply a special tape around the eye area to protect your skin from the glue and prevent your upper and lower lashes from sticking together. Tip: If the tape is uncomfortable, just ask your technician to re-adjust it until you feel comfy. Next, the synthetic lashes are individually attached to each of your real lashes so that it looks natural and full. The whole procedure, which can take as long as an hour or two, is done while your eyes are closed, so you’ll need to be extra patient.

What Else You’ll Need To Know: There are many types of extensions you can choose from. If you want a more natural effect, go for Short, Natural Lashes (starts at P800 depending on salon). If you want something more dramatic, go for the Mascara Effect (starts at P1000 depending on salon). Post-procedure, you can’t wet your eyes for about 12 hours to allow the glue to set and make sure your extensions don’t fall out. If your eyes are on the sensitive side, don’t worry. You can ask them to apply eye drops to help soothe your eyes right after.

Maintenance Tips: A detailed list of instructions are given to you after your procedure. First, you can’t use mascara or curl your lashes (note: you won’t need to anyway). To make sure your faux fringe doesn’t droop or tangle, remember to separate your lashes and lift them up after you shower. If you’re going to apply eyeshadow or liner, try to use an oil-free makeup remover to prevent weakening the glue. Most importantly, avoid tugging on your lashes or rubbing your eyes. Your real lashes will not fall off prematurely unless you pull it out on your own. If you take care of your extensions well, they can last up to four to six weeks without being retouched.

The Verdict: The extensions feel light and you’ll quickly forget you have them on. While it is a bit high maintenance after you shower or wash your face, the effort is totally worth it. It saves you loads of time in the morning since you wake up gorgeous and ready to go—you won’t even need any eye makeup. The best part? Guys even notice the change.
